RSA Student Awards 2012 submission - Social Mail - a set of stamps
- This was my submission to RSA Student Awards 2012 // Stamps: Brief A: Social Mail. The brief was to create a set of stamps that would encourage people to write traditional letters and embrace the art of traditional letter-writing.After the brainstorm and elimination of a few ideas, I have decided to focus the project on different-type handwritings. We cannot see a person’s handwriting in email, text or Facebook message. Everyone has got a unique handwriting, which means, anyone’s letter will be different – filled in with a unique character.
For the set of stamps, I have used the traditional words we start and finish the letter with. We all sometimes forget to use these words when we send quick email responds and/or text messages. Handwritten, these words embrace the emotional and the traditional of letter writing.
A set of choices, which I made after these decisions have been taken, has lead me to the vintage look both of stamps and the packaging (cover) they come in. Instead of trying to make letter-writing look contemporary, I have decided to embrace the fact that it is now becoming vintage. This look was achieved through the chosen colour palettes and typography inspired by vintage packaging.
